How to Make a Successful Home Insurance Claim

To fill a successful home insurance claim is not always an easy task to accomplish. There are plenty of hoops to jump through when filing such a claim, and if you aren’t sure how your insurance company and adjuster calculate depreciation for your home and property, you can risk losing thousands. In order to get the most out of your home insurance, when you need it most, it is important to understand how to file your claim successfully.

Before filing a home insurance claim, you should know its main purpose. Homeowners insurance provides protection for you, as a homeowner. This type of insurance can help save you the financial loss experienced with the damage or loss of your home, and often, the contents within it. There is a wide array of home insurance plans available and many vary in your particular region.

If you are planning on filing a home insurance claim, it is important to know and understand what type of claim you will be filing. The approach homeowners should take when filing a home insurance claim will depend on what type of loss you have experienced; theft, damage to the property, or a combination of losses. The type of claim will also differ if the loss was caused by a natural disaster. Some home insurance plans also cover injuries that have taken place on the premises.

When you have experienced a theft or damage to property at your home, you must first and foremost inform the law enforcement authorities. This is very important, even if expensive items are not stolen or damaged. Always be sure to keep several copies of the claim for your records and the insurance company.
Before heading to the police, be sure to make a complete list of the damaged and stolen items so that all are included on the claim. Only the items on the police claim will be covered. Once you have made the police claim, contact your home insurance company and always ask if there are any special steps you need to take to ensure that the process moves smoothly.

For filing home insurance claims involving injuries, you must ensure that prompt and proper treatment be administered. Injuries that are covered by home insurance usually include sudden falls or injuries caused by tools. Always be sure to keep a copy of any medical receipts and prescriptions for the insurance company.

Natural disasters are also covered by home insurance policies, although you will want to make sure before making a claim that you have coverage. Some home insurance policies offer natural disaster coverage automatically, whilst others only offer it as an extra. Once you have experienced a natural disaster, contact both the insurance company and your local government to ensure quick and immediate assistance. Always cooperate with authorities and follow all policies and don’t forget to fill out the necessary claim forms, otherwise your claim will be denied.

Overall, making sure that you have plenty of documentation and backup is essential to filing a home insurance claim successfully. It is a great idea to keep a camera handy and take pictures of any damage, injuries, or items within the home, as this will help your claim go a little more smoothly. It is important to keep a calm head and be patient when working with the police and insurance adjusters.

Buy Auto Insurance On Line

If You Buy Auto Insurance On Line,
How is Payment Made?

Q: I am thinking of buying car insurance online instead of through my traditional provider. I am used to paying my agent through a check. Can you tell me how will I pay if I buy auto insurance on line? Do I have to pay only through my credit card, or are there other options?

A: Most online insurance providers support a number of payment options. You can pay online through your credit card, through Paypal, through a bank transfer, or even through the traditional check. Just confirm from your auto insurance on line service provider. They will have the necessary details.

If you are technically savvy, and also aware of the precautions you need to take while making payments online, it is certainly convenient to be able to pay for your insurance easily from your home.

Many auto insurance on line websites will also set up an auto debit mechanism if you authorize it, so you will not even have to remember that you have to pay the insurance bill. But I recommend that you make it a practice to pay all your bills manually on a specific day each month. It will help avoid nasty surprises about your bank balance expectations.

Lastly, we highly recommend that you compare auto insurance rates from other companies online. In many cases, drivers are overpaying for their coverage and are completely unaware of this fact. Spending a few minutes doing some comparison shopping will quickly reveal if you are paying too much for your coverage, and may end up saving you quite a bit of money on your premiums as a result.

iPhone Insurance

iPhone Insurance in UK
Why protect yourself?

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few months, you will have heard of the iPhone and all the fuss around it.

It is a handheld device from Apple, the makers of the iPod and the Apple Mac computer. It combines a mobile phone with an easy-to-use internet browser, and a big iPod (a music/sound MP3 player). So, in one device, you can listen to your favourite songs or radio shows, talk with your friends, and check the web for well, whatever you want to check the web for.

Anyone who has not yet used an iPhone is usually confused or refuses to see the brilliance of it, saying it is all a big load of hype and marketing, in order to sell the device.

Anyone who has used an iPhone is usually stark raving mad about it, how wonderful it is, how great it is, how it is the next major breakthrough in telecommunications and gadgetry etc etc.

The truth is, in the next few years we will all be looking back on the iPhone as a groundbreaking item that many other manufacturers copied. It is far more advanced than any other phone or PDA handeld device available - by a long way, though there are a number of copycat manufacturers rushing to create something close.

The super-advanced technology means one thing to the price of the iPhone: It is not cheap.

There are a few knock-on effects of the iPhone being expensive:

1. iPhone owners will be quite careful of their new baby
2. Others will be jealous of your iPhone - because you are the proud owner, and
3. Criminals will specifically target the iPhone for theft.

This being the case, you would imagine that there is a lot of iPhone Insurance policies available. Sadly, this is not the case.

There is only 1 policy that specifically covers the iPhone as a stated "iPhone Insurance" (more on that later) but there are a few other options.

One option that is often touted as a way around getting specific insurance for an expensive item it adding it to your household home insurance. This can work, but there are 3 key drawbacks to doing this.

1. Usually house insurance policies have a FAR higher excess fee than any specific insurance policy, often £150 or more.

2. If you make an insurance claim (albeit relatively small) for your iPhone on your home insurance, your house insurance premium will likely be more expensive next year. It will go through the roof.

3. How long would you like to be without your iPhone? You might expect it to be a long while for your house insurance to process a claim. Household insurers have been known to take weeks to solve a claim. Most customers cannot accept to wait weeks for their phone to be replaced. Are household insurers experts at replacing phones?

Would you go to get your teeth fixed in a general hospital? Most likely not. You would go to the specialist - the expert - the dentist. Similarly, it might be a wise move to use an expert insurance firm to insure your iPhone.

This all leaves the question - What specialist insurer is there, that protects you and your iPhone with a proper level of cover AND is cost effective?

Let's look at what 'cost-effective' is:
The iPhone is only available on the O2 network. You can get an unofficial iPhone, which has been unlocked, to work on other networks, but lets look at the official picture.

If you needed to get a replacement iPhone then the only real way to do it is to buy a Pay As You Go iPhone from O2 which is about £360. If you are on contract you are still going to have to pay the monthly line rental costs.

So any insurance that would get you a replacement iPhone for a considerable amount. Ideally it needs to be as low cost as possible, but equally obviously, there is going to be some cost involved in the replacement.

You would then also want to consider what situations you want the insurance to protect you from - what level of cover do you need? iPhone theft is probably the most obvious possibility, but do you want to be protected if you simply lose your iPhone? Or if your iPhone is damaged? Do you need cover while you are abroad?
Do you need extended warranty (ie if the iPhone simply stops working or malfunctions after the 12 month statutory manufacturer's warranty)?

You need to think about this before you spend any money on what you think is 'insurance' for you iPhone - but actually might not be adequate protection. You could be paying for only one of these levels of cover.

Wherever you chose to get your iPhone Insurance from, one thing is clear - once you have got you iPhone and you start to realise what a great piece of kit it is, you are probably going to want to protect it with some kind of insurance that protects you - just make sure you get an expert to provide your iPhone insurance.
